Work with Dr. Marla

If you are seeking therapy or coaching, you are likely experiencing some level of emotional distress and are searching for increased meaning, awareness, and satisfaction in your life. You know things can be better.

Our work together will identify and focus on areas requiring extra attention – followed by change. Together we will target specific and practical patterns which may be holding you back, as well as ways to alter these patterns to make your life work for you. The goal is to create a profound change that you will take with you throughout your life.

I specialize in working with emotional intimacy within couples and families to enhance communication and improve relationships. I also work with individuals to help with self-awareness and self-intimacy, which then leads to greater communication and harmony in their relationships. My approach to therapy is positive, supportive, and interactive – and includes lots of feedback, reflection, and challenge.

Our time together will involve quickly identifying and changing those patterns that currently keep you “stuck” in marriage, career, or relationships with children, family, or peers… even your ability to fully “know” yourself.  Part of my job is to carefully understand – and help you understand – who you are and where you come from as it relates to your current struggles.  We will work to ensure that we are meeting goals in a timely manner and ensure a constructive and focused use of your time – in and out of session.

Some of the areas in particular that I help people with are:

  • intimacy
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • stress management
  • anger management
  • family of origin wounds
  • trauma
  • life transitions
  • perfectionism
  • codependence
  • unhealthy relationship patterns
  • personal growth and development

The following are some of the basic goals of individual therapy I strive to help you achieve:

  • Increase intimacy in relationships
  • Decrease your symptoms
  • Learn effective management tools and coping skills
  • Understand origins of the issues at hand
  • Evaluate and adjust any self-defeating core beliefs related to how you view yourself and others
  • Develop healthy boundaries between you and others
  • Encourage long-term change in a way you can maintain on your own.
